RES designs a bespoke connection box arrangement for KO2

Bespoke connection box arrangement for KO2

As part of the Thameslink KO2 project RES have designed a bespoke connection box arrangement in collaboration with the KO2 project team and maintainer that enables all connections for heaters / clamplocks & hot and cold probes within 4ft of the associated point. The railway infrastructure inter-connecting London Bridge station is predominately a viaduct with limited space to locate equipment trackside and therefore a problem for Network rail to maintain. This method of connecting points heating equipment within 4ft has been implemented for many years but the current connection block arrangement cannot facilitate EPR/PCP cables larger than 4mm². The location of points heating cubicles / transformers on the project vary from within Archway’s to the limited space that has been identified trackside and therefore increasing the 110v EPR/PCP cable lengths to each point.

The design concept for the connection box has been developed from various reviews of the product and also important valuable input from the maintainer. The connection box is sited within 4ft via a stainless steel Z-plate which is fixed direct to the concrete sleeper. The box itself is of GRP construction which is strong and durable and has an ingress protection class of IP 66 and impact protection class of IK 08. The connections within the box are via din rail mounted terminals. The cable entry into the box is via a nylon dome top gland. Each connection box is sized accordingly to suite the incoming EPR/PCP cable
