RES Achievements

From Electrician to Project Engineer

This is Dan showcasing his Final Project Work today at the Vision University Centre.

Dan is one of our Project Engineers here at Railway Electrical Services who started working for us four years ago as an electrician. Since then he has progressed into the office and gained valuable experience from working in the projects and design engineering departments.

During the past two years RES have funded him to attend day release classes alongside working in our Ilkeston Office.

When talking to Dan about this experience, this is what he had to say;

What course is it that you did?
HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering

What did you achieve most in this course?
I have developed my ability to apply analysis and critical thinking to the solution of technical engineering problems. I also feel I now have the knowledge, understanding and skills in a range of core electrical principles.

What aspects of the course did you enjoy the most/least?
Studying electrical power was my favourite unit as I enjoy learning about power generation, transformers and three-phase systems. I also enjoyed learning and writing about renewable energy and low carbon technology. My least favourite units were analytical methods and further mathematics.

Anything you want to add?
It has been a tough two years but completely worth it to gain this qualification. I’ve spent most evenings and weekends studying but had plenty of support at home to keep me motivated. It’s now time to focus on my career and look forward to a prosperous future working with RES.
